Wooloomooloo Steakhouse is named after a bayside town in Australia’s Sydney. The restaurant is located at level 3 of Swissotel The Stamford that has a elegant dining space with awesome views of Singapore big events like F1 night race, fireworks and etc.Wooloomooloo is easily accessible via City Hall MRT Station and a walking distance through the Raffles City Shopping Mall.wooloomooloo steakhouse-1
The restaurant is known for their premium steak selections and Australian offerings. I was invited for a dinner tasting session recently and it was my first time there.
wooloomooloo steakhouse
We were given 4-course dinner meal with options to choose from:
First up is the complimentary freshly-baked Onion Bread.
wooloomooloo steakhouse-Onion Bread
Be sure to enjoy it while its warm and goes well with t
he butter spread.Yums!

1st Course- Jumbo Lump Crab Cake or Jumbo Prawn Cocktail
wooloomooloo steakhouse-Lump Crab Cake
We were given tasting portion of our choice but photo taken is the actual portion when you order from ala-carte menu. I had the Jumbo lump crab cake served with mustard mayonnaise, tartare sauce and Tahitian lime. I indulged with the crab patty as the starter of the meal.
wooloomooloo steakhouse-cocktail prawns
The Jumbo Prawn Cocktail is served with cocktail sauce and Tahitian lime. Others enjoyed the fresh prawns.

Next, there are two options- Lobster Bisque and Wooloomooloo Salad.
wooloomooloo steakhouse-lobster bisque
wooloomooloo steakhouse-Salad
For salad lover, you will definitely enjoy the salad here. The portion is generous with ingredients like char-grilled filet mignon, spinach, mushrooms and truffle aroma. It can be quite filling I would say. It can be a main course of its own if you order as ala-carte.

Main Course
There are two options- Pan-seared Barramundi or 120-Day Grain Fed Australian Rib Eye.
wooloomooloo steakhouse-Pan-seared Barramundi
wooloomooloo steakhouse-120-day grain fed Australian Rib Eye-1
The pan-seared Barramundi served with lyonnaise potatoes and capers while the ribeye served with watercress and vine ripened tomatoes. Diners can request the steak doneness according to preference.

Dessert
Wooloomooloo Cheesecake or Wooloomooloo Hot Chocolate Cake.
wooloomooloo steakhouse-Chocolate Lava
I opt for the hot chocolate cake served with classic vanilla gelato. Rich, silky smooth chocolate lava cake is simply delightful!
wooloomooloo steakhouse-Cheesecake
For cheesecake lovers, you can opt for their cheesecake served with red berry compote and yoghurt sorbet.

The photos taken here are based on the portion served in a la-carte menu. The portion will be adjusted accordingly if diners request for 4-course meal priced at S$108.00++ per pax.
And of course, the 4-course meal will include more than 2 choices for each category. So, fret not! You will be spoilt with choices.

Jumbo Seafood Restaurant’s newest outlet is located at level 4, Ion Orchard. Jumbo Seafood is well-known for it’s notably its Award –Winning Chilli Crab complemented with golden Deep Fried Mini Buns. The restaurant is established in 1987 at East Coast Seafood Centre and since expanded across island wide.

Jumbo Seafood Ion Orchard restaurant-1
Jumbo Seafood Ion Orchard restaurant
This new Jumbo Seafood is strategically located in the circular part of the Ion Orchard Mall with a panoramic view of the city. The 160-seater space caters to gatherings of small, intimate scales, as well as larger groups and get-togethers. There are private rooms with option of adjoining ones for bigger events, celebrations and corporate functions, are also available with prior reservation. And of course, there is minimum spending of S$500.00 to use the private room.
Indulge in their new dim sum & high tea delights when you visit the outlet on weekdays from 11:30AM – 11:30PM (last order 2:45pm) , as well as on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays for high tea, between 2:30PM and 5:30PM (last order 4:45PM).
We tried 3 dim sum dishes that include:
Baked JUMBO Chilli Crab Puffs S$8.80++
Jumbo Seafood Ion Orchard restaurant-Chilli crab puffs

Chilli Crab Meat Sauce with Sliced Fried “Mantou” S$16.80++
Jumbo Seafood Ion Orchard restaurant-Chilli crab dim sum
They serve generous serving of crab meat with the sauce and dip with the crispy mantou. I would prefer the traditional mantou dipped with the sauce.

Pan-fried JUMBO Chilli Crab Buns S$8.80++
Jumbo Seafood Ion Orchard restaurant-Chilli crab bun
Fluffy, soff pan-fried bun stuffed with chilli crab is simply tasty. It was my favourite out of the 3 dim sum dishes served that night.
Next, we had Geoduck Clam Blanched with Superior Stock S$18.80 per 100g
Jumbo Seafood Ion Orchard restaurant-Geoduck clam-1
Jumbo Seafood Ion Orchard restaurant-Geoduck clam
Jumbo Seafood Ion Orchard restaurant-Geoduck clam-2
Diners can enjoy Geoduck meat in two ways when you dine in here. Firstly, the sashimi-style where you dip it with wasabi and soy sauce to enjoy the sweet and clear taste of the meat.
Then, you can enjoy it with the superior stock which is quite comforting in taste.

Crispy Fried Cod Fish with Nyonya Sauce S$22.00++
Jumbo Seafood Ion Orchard restaurant-Cod Fish
Delicate and aromatic nyonya sauce complements the crispy fried cod fish.

Cheese-Baked Mentaiko King Prawn S$16.00++
Jumbo Seafood Ion Orchard restaurant-Mentaiko Prawns
Highly recommended to mentaiko lover!

Cod Fish ‘Otah’ in coconut S$16.80++
Jumbo Seafood Ion Orchard restaurant-Otah with Cod fish
Loving this dish and wish I had a bowl of white rice to go with it. Instead of the usual grilled fish, JUMBO uses codfish to prepare the otah and include lemongrass into the dish as well. It gives a nice fragrance smell and taste to the dish!

Homemade Beancurd and Mixed Seafood Braised with Abalone Sauce
S$14.00++ (XS) | S$18.00++ (S) | S$27.00++ (M) | S$36.00++ (L)

Jumbo Seafood Ion Orchard restaurant-Braised Tofu abalone

Chinese Chives Stir Fried with Minced Garlic
S$11.00++ (XS) | S$14.00++ (S) | S$21.00++ (M) | S$28.00++ (L)

Jumbo Seafood Ion Orchard restaurant-Chives Veges

King Prawns and Fragrant Rice in Rich Seafood Broth S$38.00++
Jumbo Seafood Ion Orchard restaurant-Prawn broth
Umami rich prawn broth rendered by simmering prawn shells for several hours and served with crispy rice grains to complete the dish. Yummy! The broth is thick and strong in flavour I would say!

Jumbo Seafood Ion Orchard restaurant-Desserts
Lastly, we had desserts to end the night. Desserts include Fried Durian S$6.80++, Chilled Durian Pudding S$6.80++, Chilled Mango Sago Pomelo S$5.00++ and Double-boiled Peach Resin (Hot) S$4.50++.

It was a good experience dining at this new outlet. For those who love crabs but lazy to peel, you can check out JUMBO because they serve the chilli crabs in different ways. It is definitely easier than eating crustaceans with shells on. But then again, it’s also leisure to enjoy the full crab and get your hands messy once in a while.

Guide to Renew Passport in Johor Bahru | UTC JB | Malaysia

$
0
0

My last renewal passport in Malaysia post was 2011 and here is the updated on with new system. So, I hope my renewal passport experience in Johor Bahru can help those who are planning to do it in Johor Bahru instead of Singapore.

Where to Renew Passport in Johor?
Here are the lists of Johor Immigration Offices for your reference

What to Bring for Renewal Passport?
With the new system, all you need to bring is:
1. I/C – Note: Your I/C must be the updated one otherwise please renew it before you can apply for renewal passport
2. Current Passport
3. Birth Certificate based on the stated requirements stated here.
4. Cash/ Credit Card

How to Renew Passport at UTC Johor Bahru?
I did my renewal passport at UTC in Johor Bahru. It is located inside Galleria at Kotaraya, Johor Bahru. A short walking distance from Johor CIQ and to give you a general view, it is consider opposite Faculty of Caffeine. The shopping mall entrance opens at 8.00am but you can see people are gathered around.
As soon as the security guard opens the door at 8am sharp, everyone dashed in and get to Level 2 of UTC office to queue for number.
First, queue to get a number. The officer will check your I/C and passport before giving out the number. You cannot get someone else to get a number for you.
Note: And for senior citizen, they will be given different queue number. There are two counters especially for senior citizen to renew their passport.
Next, wait for your turn. The officer will take photo on the spot and do the necessary form updated. So, please ensure that you are wearing dark colour to do your passport. Otherwise, they will provide you the black coat or shawl to cover your shoulder.
Then, keep your number and wait for the payment counter to call. Make your payment and the receipt will state the time of passport collection. It will be an hour after making payment. I paid RM200 for my passport renewal.
Remember to place your receipt at the counter next to it. There will be a notice box stating to place your receipt there. Please do it otherwise you will never get your name called.

The receipt with stated number and time collection of the new passport

And be sure to be back at the counter where you placed your receipt on time. The reason is because the officer will not use the number system to call. She/ He will call out name instead. So, you need to be attentive enough to hear her calling.

P/S: She/he will offer you to purchase the passport cover of RM5.00. You can opt not to purchase.

And I got my passport around 10.30am and all set to go home. It was quite fast and hassle-free. The next thing to do is to go to ICA website to transfer my re-entry permit so that I can go back Singapore with updated passport details. And you can use autogate system in Singapore directly. Alternatively, go to manual counter if you have yet to update your re-entry details.

And there is a notice stating that you can now renew your passport online. Do share if anyone did passport renewal experience through online!

Hope this helps for those are planning to renew passport in Johor Bahru.

[TAIWAN TRAVELS] 1 Day Trip to Nung Chan Monastery (法鼓山農禪寺 ) At Beitou

During my 4 days trip to Taipei, Taiwan last month, I visited Nung Chan Monastery. The monastery is located at Beitou District, Taipei, Taiwan. It is formally in 1975 by Ven. Dongchu, a scholar monk and disciple of renowned Chinese Buddhist Master Taixu. It’s named ‘ Farming Ch’an ‘ as its early residents dedicated themselves to Ch’an practice and grew their own food. (taken from Wikipedia).Dharma Dum Nung Chan monastery Beitou
We decided to visit the place after watching this beautiful video from youtube.

How To Get There
Take the train to Qiyan Station and it’s a 10minutes walk from the station. The journey will take approximately 1 hour 10mins from central of Taipei. So, once you leave the station, turn left and follow Sanhe Street and turn left again upon reaching Daye Road.Look out for Volkswagen service center and find the entrance of lane 65 of Daye Road. Cross the street and walk till the end of the lane, you will arrive at your destination.
Alternatively, you can check google map to route your way.

The Place
Dharma Dum Nung Chan monastery-Hazeldiary-1
Dharma Dum Nung Chan monastery-Hazeldiary
The Water-Moon Dharma Center (水月道場) at the Dharma Drum Mountain Nung Chan Monastery (法鼓山農禪寺) in Beitou was built in the modern minimalist architectural style. We were awed with the architectural structures and details of the place as we slowly made our way to the monastery. It was almost noon and there is already crowd around the place. It is a spiritual home for devoted to practice and learn and uphold the Buddhadharma.
Dharma Dum Nung Chan monastery Beitou-Taipei
Dharma Dum Nung Chan monastery Beitou-1
The Water-Moon Pool reflects the splendid Buddha hall at Nung Chan Monastery, which has since become one of the tourist spots for photo-taking. It is like a mirror that reflects the clouds and sky, Buddha Hall and Corridor.
Also, spot the main Buddha Hall’s exterior and interior design structure. The Heart Sutra, carved into the interior wall and it changes with the flow of natural light. I didn’t get the chance to take the moment but you can watch it from the video above. It was beautiful! It reminds us that life is impermanent and forever arising and perishing.
Dharma Dum Nung Chan monastery Beitou-3

Dharma Dum Nung Chan monastery Beitou-2
And the façade of the L-shaped building located next to Main Buddha Hall is inscribed with over 5,000 characters of the Diamond Sutra. We were lucky enough to witness the beautiful rainbow on that day. Look at my photo! It’s amazing and it is literally rainbow after the rain. It was a keepsake memory for us.
Dharma Dum Nung Chan monastery-Retail
Next to it is retail cum café where visitors/ tourists can purchase the merchandise goods or chill and drink tea. There are mostly books related to Buddhism and also life inspired stories from the Reverend and founder of this place.
Dharma Dum Nung Chan monastery-1
I would suggest you to visit here to enjoy the harmonious scenery. It’s like away from the bustling city and a sense of calmness and happiness. Not sure about how you feel after you visit but that is how I felt after my visit there. And this is has become a popular destination for foreign practitioners for a Zen meditation experience.
You can read about the history of this place from here.

I was invited for a dinner tasting session and tried the S$108.00++ per pax 5-course menu on that day.
Subrosa Private Dining-Artisanal Bread
The meal began with the artisanal bread served with freshly made truffle butter. The service staff will come with a basket of breads and you get to choose your own bread.
Subrosa Private Dining-Fresh is Best -Appertizer
Next, we have the appetizer, Fresh is Best. It is served with scallops, fermented melon, cucumber, dill, lemon and smoked trout roe. Refreshing with bits of tangy flavour which compliments the scallops cured with sea salt from England.

Subrosa Private Dining- Jalan Besar
Subrosa Private Dining-The Cocktail
The Cocktail for the next appetizer served includes the crab and aerated shrimp. Since there are both crustaceans, the flavours are sweet and umami. My sister’s favourite of the night.

Subrosa Private Dining- Quacking Cod
Subrosa Private Dining- Quacking Cod-1
Quaking Cod That– the dish inspired from the steamed fish in Chinese way of cooking. Chef Steven uses cod fish, nori (seaweed), shimeji mushrooms and ginger for the east meets west touch. And quaking here refers to the sauce. Chef Seven explained that he uses duck consommé instead of soy sauce and this preparation requires a lot of process and time.

Subrosa Private Dining- Jalan Besar-Hokkien Mee
Moving on, we have the ‘atas’ Hokkien Mee. I was expecting for fine dining portion but it came out quite a generous portion. Indeed a luxe version of local dish with lobster meats serving to complete the dish. The staff will pour the broth upon serving the dish to enhance the flavours of the noodles. The rich broth was prepared for hours and using the fine ingredients to retain its flavour.
Subrosa Private Dining-Wagyu
I was quite full after the Hokkien Mee but there is one more savoury dish to go. “Who Niu” dish that served with slab of wagyu beef along with foie gras and vegetable puree. Tender and juicy beef texure and the intense flavour from the foie gras are equally delicious.
Subrosa Private Dining-Tropical passion dessert
Finally, we had Tropical Passion for our dessert. This dessert platter comes with coconut, lime, passionfruit and mango sorbet. Every single component tasted sweet, light and helps to cleanse the palate right after both heavy mains earlier on.
Subrosa Private Dining- Jalan Besar-1
It was a pleasant dining experience with Subrosa Private Dining that night. Both Chef Steve and Chef Francis are very friendly and they explained almost every single dish served on the table to us. I personally think it was a nice gesture and also to educate diners about the preparation of the dishes and as well as the food knowledge.

And it is available in 5 to 7 course menus for lunch and dinner. Price starts from S$108.00 for 5 course menu to S$148.00 for 7 course menu. The price for dinner will be varied so please confirm your pricing when you make your reservation.

[JB EATS] The 5 Favourite Bak Kut Te h Places in Johor Bahru – By the Locals & Singaporeans

$
0
0

Bak Kut Te h is one of the all-time favourite pork rib dish for Singaporeans and Malaysians. It comes with two versions either herbal or peppery based broth. And for Malaysia version, we have the herbal based broth and it is my favourite local food. Bak Kut Te h is a pork rib dish cooked in hours and best to enjoy as breakfast by the locals or even anytime of the day.

And here I have the top 5 frequently visited Bak Kut Te h places in Johor Bahru:
1. Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh 强记肉骨茶

I have been patronising Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh since my secondary school days and it was actually owned by my friend’s family business. It started to become well-known throughout the years and those who travel to Desaru will definitely stop here for the bak kut te h. The bak kut the here is served in a pipping hot claypot. The sip of the herbal broth truly made the waiting worth though. Some of my friends said the taste was not as good as last time but for me, I still think it’s good. You can’t find this taste in Singapore. The pork rib meats were tender. Personally felt that the consistency of the food quality still maintain despite of the crowd. The broth soup is the crucial key of all.

2. Restoran Kota Zheng Zhong Bak Kut Teh
Restoran Kota Zheng Zhong-Bak Kut Teh-Taman Sentosa
Restoran Kota Zheng Zhong-Bak Kut Teh
Restoran Kota Zheng Zhong-Bak Kut Teh-Hazeldiary-1
Since the travel distance to Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh takes approximately 1.5 – 2 hours drive from Johor Bahru and subject to traffic condition. Thus, some said Restoran Kota Zheng Zong Bak Kut Teh is the ideal alternative for those who lazy to travel far. And this restaurant is opened by Kiang Kee’s lady boss’ younger brother. I went to check it out recently and it was not bad. Although my top favourite is still Kiang Kee Bak Kut Te h, this is consider my alternative choice to go in Johor Bahru. Their menu is pretty much the same and you can read the full post here.

Restoran Kota Zheng Zhong
Address: 177, Jalan Sutera

Opening Hours: 8:00AM – 3:00PM

3. Hwa Mei Bak Kut Teh 华美亞B肉骨茶
Hwa Mei Bak Kut Teh Johor Bahru
Hwa Mei Bak Kut Teh Johor Bahru-6
Hwa Mei Bak Kut Teh Johor Bahru-Pork Rib
After so many years, I am back to Hwa Mei Ah Bee Bak Kut Teh 华美亞B肉骨茶.Mei Hua Ah Bee Bak Kut Te h has been in business for over 30 years and it is a family business. There are in their third generation in line now. That was quite a bit of history. Although they also serve herbal broth, I personally think the taste is not flavourful enough. There is no depth to it. Neverthless, this is also one of the favourite place for Singaporeans whenever they crossed the causeway for breakfast.

(Restoran Ah Bee).
Opening Hours: Tuesday- Sunday 8:30AM – 2:00PM
(Closed on Monday)

4. Soon Huat Bak Kut Teh 新山顺发肉骨茶
My Singaporean friends told me this is their second choice for Bak Kut Te h after Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh. Soon Huat Bak Kut Teh is a family business and has been operating for years. The bak kut teh here is also prepared using charcoal fire and it always crowded most of the time. The herbal broth here is mildly savoury taste with herbal in it. They also offers other claypot dishes like pork kidney and liver cooked with savoury sweet sauce. And the price list shows the price by pax instead of ordering one big claypot of bak kut te h. So it is easier for those who do not know how to order for the first time.
You can take a grab/ taxi for approximately RM5- 7 per ride from CIQ JB or JB City Square Mall.

5. Soon Soon Heng Bak Kut Teh 顺顺兴肉骨茶
Soon Soon Heng Bak Kut Teh brand is familiar for Singaporeans who often cross over the causeway and shop around KSL Mall. The bak kut teh here served in the claypot like others. We ordered 1 portion of bak kut teh with no additional top up ingredients and 1 portion with additional ingredients. There are few types of ingredients displayed for us to pick. So, we add on meatballs, enoki mushrooms, pig intestines and beancurd skin. Soon Soon Heng’s pork broth tasted mild in flavour as compared with other bak kut teh shops that I ever tried. The herbal taste is not strong as compared with Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh but still decent. The soup broth is not greasy and easy to drink though. And I think you will have better options than to visit this place. It is more of the location opposite to KSL where people done shopping and hop over for a meal.

[JAPAN TRAVELS] A Day To Echigo Yuzawa | Niigata Prefecture from Tokyo

I am back with my Japan travelogue post and this is about an impromptu stop at Echigo Yuzawa. Our initial plan is to see the snow monkeys of Jigokudani, Yamanouchi at Nagano but due to the faulty shinkasen train service, we cannot go in the end. So, we just took the shinkasen train towards Niigata to see where to explore.Echigo Yuzawa Station
Echigo Yuzawa Station-1
And after leaving Tokyo, it passes by Echigo Yuzawa station and it was snowing heavily! We got excited and decided to stop here and play with the snow. Echigo Yuzawa is a popular place to ski and enjoy the snow. We were excited about it and here is our 1 min video clip to summarize our excitement!

We were there early December and it was snowing heavily so the skiing place is closed until mid December. We just wander around the places near the station and found this hotel that has a café in the lobby. So, we headed in and enjoy our cake and tea with this gorgeous view! Totally loving it!

Echigo Yuzawa

The area around the station is mainly restaurants, convenience stores and some onsen ryokans. There is a ski slope within a walking distance from the station. Alternatively, you can take a bus ride to reach the gondola station. If the snow is not heavy, we would love to get there to take a beautiful view from the top.
Echigo Yuzawa -Niigata
We wandered around the area and even take picture at the car park that is surrounded with fresh snow before heading back to Echigo Yuzawa station. There is a Sake museum in the station if you are interested to explore. We did not and headed straight back to Tokyo. This pretty summarizes our one day impromptu stop over at Echigo Yuzawa. It was indeed fun and memorable one.

[JAPAN EATS] My Din Tai Fung Dining Experience in Tokyo

Din Tai Fung is a well-known Taiwanese style restaurant and it is one of the must-visit restaurants when in Taipei, Taiwan. The restaurant specializes in Xiao Long Bao and their pork chop fried rice. We were in Tokyo for a week and decided to have Chinese food for dinner on one of the night. Thus, we decided to visit Din Tai Fung restaurant located at Nihonbashi Branch out of their 17 branches in Japan.Din Tai Fung Tokyo-4
Din Tai Fung Tokyo-3
We did not make any reservation and thankfully there are seats available for us during dinner time. The service staff then gave us the menu with English description. The menu here is extensive and the price is not so friendly as compared to Singapore. Their soup dumplings even have abalone in it. Wow!
Xiao Long Bao Din Tai Fung
We ordered their signature dish, Three Sorted Seafood Xiao Long Bao 1,240 Yen ~S$15.20 to share. No huge difference in terms of the taste and quality of the Xiao Long Bao here and the ones I had in Singapore and Taiwan. The fillings are succulent and juicy.

Din Tai Fung Tokyo
E wanted something soupy so we ordered Shrimp and Pork Wanton Soup 600 Yen ~S$7.40.Comforting shrimp and pork wanton soup.

Din Tai Fung Tokyo-Fried Rice
Next, Shrimp Fried Rice 1,100Yen ~S$13.50.Fragrant fried rice with egg with fresh shrimp comes with soup.

Pork Chop Rice Din Tai Fung
Pork Chop Rice Din Tai Fung with miso soup
And lastly Pork Chop Fried Rice 1,400 Yen~S$17.20
The pork chop fried rice here is served with miso soup as a complete meal. And the kurobuta pork here is different from the ones I had in Singapore and Taiwan. It was mild in flavour and tasted peppery. I would prefer the version in Singapore though. The fried rice with eggs here tastes fragrant and not much of difference though. We still enjoyed the dish as a whole.
Din Tai Fung Tokyo-2
Our total bill was 4,687 Yen ~S$57.50. I personally feel the Din Tai Fung here incorporates Japanese culture into their menu to suit the local taste buds. They also serve higher range ingredients to cater for niche markets here. And some of the ingredients served here is not available elsewhere. If you are in Japan and craving for Chinese meal, go for Din Tai Fung. You will surely leave the place with happy belly!

The Botanic Raffles City Shopping Mall-Sambal Short Ribs-1
It’s my first time having sambal short rib and it was indeed flavoursome. The smoky texture and tint of sambal spice. Smokey with easily fell apart meat served with caramelised shallots along with roasted padron peppers. It’s one of the highlight of the night too.

Chendol Pavlova (GF) (V) S$12.00++
The Botanic-Chendol Pavlova
We ended our meal with this beautifully plated Chendol Pavlova inspired by Chef Binnie’s Indonesian wife’s native cuisine. A combination of mixing coconut, jackfruit, mango, salted palm sugar and eggless meringue and best part is this dessert is vegan too. It’s amazingly tasty!

I foresee myself visiting the restaurant soon to try out the rest of the vegan and vegetarian dishes. I think Chef did a good job to create interesting and flavourful plant-based dining experience without burning a hole in your wallet. The restaurant is considered wallet-friendly place like any casual dining places.

[SG LIFESTYLE] Hot Stone Therapy Review At Ganbanyoku Singapore

Ganban’yoku (岩盤浴) is a form of hot stone therapy that originates from Japan. All you need to do is to lie on the hot stone bed while it emits the heat throughout the part of your body that comes into contact with the bed. It is a different form of spa therapy as compared to onsen. I was invited to Ganbanyoku Singapore recently to check out the hot stone therapy.
Here is some information about Ganbanyoku Singapore before I move on to share about my experience.
Ganbanyoku Singapore use volcanic ores derived from the volcanic lava found in Japan. When these rock ores are heated, the stones emit negative ions and Far-infrared rays (FIR) which are able to penetrate up to 1.5inches deep into the body. This helps your body detoxify through perspiration. It is said to provide natural healing to joints and muscles.

Benefits of Hot Stone Therapy include:

Experience Review

So upon arrival, there is a cabinet where customers can keep their shoes before entering to the treatment room. Upon registering, I was given a set of yukata, bath towel, face towel and locker key.

I carried my stuffs towards the changing room, where shower rooms, lockers and dressing/ makeup corner located. The dressing/makeup corner is equipped with makeup remover and basic amenities for you to use after the therapy session.
I was advised not to shower after the hot stone therapy session. Thus, I decided to do it beforehand. The reason for not showering after the session is that the full therapeutic effects will last for hours after the session. And the therapist shared that there is no need to worry getting all sticky because the sweat produced doesn’t have such feeling.

So, basically I was advised to drink a lot of water before the session and bring along a cup of water to the treatment room. Then, I just lie down on the specially heated volcanic stone bed.
How to Ganbanyoku
Firstly, I lie flat on my stomach for a while to warm up the body. Then, I turned over and lie flat on my back. And because the temperature of the hot stone bed is maintained at 45 degress Celsius, I can’t handle the hot so I end up lying on my towel to help alleviate some of the heat. Then, slowly adjust to my comfortable position and chill for an hour. You can opt for 60minutes or more for each session.
Ganbanyoku Singapore-Treatment Room
The whole process is quite similar like in the sauna room or even suntanning position. If you are doing it with friends, you can chit chat while lying on the hot stone bed. For me, I nearly dozed off during the session. I started to sweat after a while and it is said that it is a sign of expelling toxins through perspiration.

At the end of the session, I perspired quite a bit and my cheeks are pinkish. It is just like having a workout session. I rested and replenish my body with more fluids just outside the treatment room. And gently pat dry the sweat from the whole body before changing back to my clothes. The whole process was relaxing and refreshing! And of course you need to come back for more sessions to see the results.

Things to take note:
1. Drink lots of water before the session
2. Bring your own change of underwear
3. No handphone or electronic devices are allowed in the treatment room
4. No toilets so please use the public toilet before the session starts
